Why do people associate the word security with something along the line of a security guard? It is like saying, medical = doctor. When it can refer to nurses. Is it so hard to understand?

Read the following transcript between a duck and a chicken…

First he forgot my name. Next he associated security to security guard, and hence cisco. When Cisco is one of the biggest players in the networking industry.

Even as a non technical (but competent enough to be able to surf online) person, security is a buzz word. You use the computer, you have to know about security. It is your responsibility. Don’t believe me? That IS the LAW.

My last line to t his fella is “Don’t tell anyone you were my trainee in army.”

haha.. Visual C++ 8 has got a Y3K problem. The dates cannot go beyond Jan 1st 3000.

Haven’t they learnt from the last experience a decade ago?

Oh.. you may wonder what is the risk and impact. While many (if not all) of us will not live to that age, what happens to applications when such a date arrives is that it freezes. This one doesn’t just show up a pop up box that it is an invalid date.

What it means is, attacks can exploit this by sending data that contains a date range beyond 3000, and cause the application to crash. This can happen anytime, even right now as we speak.

But I guess the impact is low, and the makers should be releasing a patch for it. I am just intrigued and amused by the fact that these people haven’t really learnt anything. Same old mistake perhaps. Either an oversight, or “it is a long way to go before year 3000″ WITHOUT considering the implications of how people can exploit this issue today.

Any arbitrary limit built into a code is a bad idea. Period. If there should be any limits, it should be used to limit and validate input information to prevent a buffer overlow vulnerability.

Replying to a post on y u sheng, with people commenting it is:

- over priced
- what is the point of yu sheng when it is vegetarian
- the oils and sauces are so sweet, it is fattening!
- it is only once a year.

I am a raw fish eater. My blood is probably sticky with microworms in the blood if I do a blood analysis at a TCM shop. Ask those around me. When fish see me, they don’t swim away. They run away.

Nothing wrong with yu sheng. I just do it to please older people. Not something I would do cause I don’t really celebrate this nonsensical festival.

However I do not subscribe to this ‘once a year thing’. A lot of people under estimate the money and calories. Money in the sense, aiyah CNY once a year buy new clothes. Then Christmas also once a year, birthday also once a year. Friend’s bday also once a year. It works out to every 2 weeks you or your friend has a birthday, once a year.

In terms of calories, that is even worse. After CNY and Christmas, there are so many other stuff that is once a year. Effectively that char kway teow will work out to be once in 3 days instead of once a year.

Of course those apply to those who are tightening their belt and watching calories. I am here to illustrate how the ‘once a year’ isn’t what you really think it is. Then don’t start wondering why always broke, why cannot lose weight etc.

That aside, in terms of yu sheng, the significance and the gathering of everyone is priceless. the 48 dollar yu sheng is but 48 dollar. Businesses are happy. Customers are happy. Everyone is. That is the most important thing. Be happy with what you do. Don’t let me or anyone say how stupid it is for 5 dollar a stalk or 50 a bowl of vege. That is my opinion MAYBE, but it should not affect yours.

BE HAPPY!

And you guessed it. That is also priceless.

Someone asked me again if I would like to migrate and work in another country. Again.

I told him, you know what, it is better to be an expat, than to be a second class PR/citizen. :)

Nuff said.

The irony of the whole Thailand VS Singapore football match is….

I got mid-time scores from an audience who announced the score after Hossan Leong (we were watching his multi personality stage performance at the drama centre), and the full time score from contacts on my MSN.

News travels faster than before. I no longer need to access StraitsTimes forums. I just head online on MSN.

WOW.
